Book Review [I’ve Decided TO LIVE 120 YEARS by Ilchi Lee]

I’ve Decided TO LIVE 120 YEARS by Ilchi Lee is a must read for every person over 50 who wants to ensure they have a spirit filled, emotionally balanced, worry free, stress free and physically healthy second half of life. I have been on a quest for immortality and longevity since I first experienced death as a teenager when my favorite aunt died from heart disease at 67 years old.  As I was reading, I thought of the many elders that I knew who didn’t live long and what life would have been like for them if they had this type of information prior to their senior years.

As you know I love quotable books and I found dozens of quotes to live by and share throughout the 13 chapters. Some of the most influential chapters in the book for me was Chapter 4: Reflect on the First Half of Your Life, Design the Second, and although I haven’t quite lived the first half of life, this chapter helped me make some pretty good confirmations about how I have lived and affirmations about my intentions and desires for the rest of living.

“Provide Your Own Health, Happiness and Peace.”

Another chapter is 7: Let Go of Attachments to Find Peace is full of lessons on the burdens that reeks through humanity and holds many lives in bondage. Attachments, the need to control, and worry for lack or loss is a day to day misery that robs so many people of their peace. These practical conscious changing techniques and meditations will certainly tap any attachment nerve and encourage the reader to change.

“Attachments come from foolishness, and foolishness develops when we don’t know the purpose of our lives.”

I also love a book with vision and the Earth Village in New Zealand described in the Afterword is a vision and reality of peaceful existence that mankind deserves as products of nature. The really special part about the vision of the Earth Village is throughout the book, Ilchi Lee tells you how to create your own Earth Village right where you are. Let’s face it New Zealand is a long way to go although I’m sure it would be worth the trip.

As a Doctor of Naturopathy, I can fully appreciate writing that guides holistic living. I’ve Decided TO LIVE 120 YEARS by Ilchi Lee covers the physical solutions to aging, the techniques to reverse the mental burdens that society produces about aging, the emotional nourishment needed to develop an unshakable peace and the spiritual tools to close your eyes at the end of life and know that you have lived well.

I am glad I purchased this book at the Trinity Health Expo in Chicago this past Fall. It is a game changer for anyone who has a mind to live a good long life. I’m looking forward to my 118 years!
