Book Review [The Way Forward Is With A Broken Heart by Alice Walker]

If you have ever loved another person in any way you will find yourself written into these pages. Although Alice Walker writes of a time long gone to the world today she makes it evident in The Way Forward Is With A Broken Heart that love and what it means to people is timeless.

The book is a collection of short stories that are cunningly unusual yet familiar in the underlying emotional energy that the characters share.  Walker creates an American melting pot of complicated yet common interracial human relations based on her own life experiences and others she terms as fiction. Each story reveals a variety of themes to ensure engagement including horror, death, rape, confusion, psychosis and suspense. She leaves you hanging in the balance on a couple of important points about a few of the characters. This intertwined with bliss, unforgettable sex, procreation, forgiveness, happy endings and the joy of innocent platonic connections causes a variety of biochemical reactions in the body as you read through this journey of life. You feel these stories.

Once a master always a master. Walker is a forever icon among world writers. The Way Forward Is With A Broken Heart is no exception as proof of this standing. She writes boldly and unafraid about sexuality and lust and the confusion it can cause because it stands against the norms that the world tries to perpetrate.

The Way Forward Is With A Broken Heart like many of Alice Walker's works is unforgettable. If love is where you want to find yourself, start here.
