Book Review [Reconnecting to the Earth by Aaron Hoopes]

“It is time to walk a different path. This path is not about accumulating stuff. It’s not about money and power. It’s not about exploiting the natural world. It’s not about dominating other living beings, and it has nothing to do with anger and hate. No, walking this path is simply about living, experiencing, and caring about this precious life and this abundant world. It is a holistic experience for the body, mind and spirit. It is about recognizing, sensing, and exchanging energy with the natural world around us and feeling that energy reciprocated.”

Reconnecting to the Earth: Reclaiming Our Relationship to Nature and Ourselves by Aaron Hoopes is a very refreshing book. It is evident that the writer is mature and knowledgeable. If you feel passionate about maintaining earth and want to renew your call to action, Reconnecting to the Earth is an excellent guide.

“This Earth is not much longer going to be content as humanity’s captive. It is time for us to vibrate on a higher level, to connect with the divine that exists within us all. It is time for the warriors, the healers, the shamans, the mystics, the teachers, and the sages to recognize and accept their role in the present moment and recover our connection to the whole.”

Although the author suggests that if you are already doing the work or have previous knowledge on helping to save the earth, that you could skip chapters 1 and 2, but I say read the whole book. These two chapter offer vital information, encouragement and some beautiful poetry too! I also enjoyed the great historical references like to the classical book, The Secret Life of Plants

Further on in the book, Chapter 3: Rebalancing and Reconnecting, the author encourages the reader's participation in being active in the mission of “reconnecting” with exercises and immersion. There was a slow read dull moment in the book. The first few exercises in the chapter were redundant. I would have appreciated more innovative things to do with the breath and movement in the “Rebalancing the Body” section. My favorite was Exercise 8, Seclusion. I live in a village in Ghana and I know this exercise will strengthen my already intense love affair with nature and the Earth.

The last chapter, The Sevens: Creating a Sustainable Practice are Seven lists of seven key components to personal and planet elevation; seven stages, seven precepts, seven qualities, seven experiences, seven directions, seven reminders, and seven actions, is a good ending that helps the reader with subjective ascension.

I had to look up the background of the author and it was quite evident in Mr. Hoopes’ story and training how such a vital piece of written work for the world came through. I do recommend this book for beginners and experienced stewards of Mother Earth. I was sent a free copy of the book to my book review p o box in exchange for my honest opinion and I give Reconnecting to the Earth 4 ankhs.
